This technical brief will discuss recommended freeze dryer maintenance items from basic cleaning & housekeeping to more advanced topics such as calibration, system tests and performance verification. Lyophilizers are complicated pieces of equipment with many different sub-systems, each one requiring specific maintenance protocols.
Many of these maintenance items can and should be routinely performed by the freeze drying equipment operator while some may require the assistance of a trained service technician specializing on freeze dryers. This paper can assist the reader in setting up operational and maintenance procedures for their freeze dryer.
