Ashley Lay-Fortenbery
Ashley Lay-Fortenbery is a Ph.D. Candidate in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy, with expected graduation August 2019. She works in the lab of Dr. Eric Munson, and focuses on the impact of ionization, phase separation and mobility on the stability of lyophilized protein formulations using Solid-State NMR Spectroscopy. She received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering with an emphasis in biopharmaceutical engineering from the University of Kentucky in 2014. Ashley spent a summer in the formulation group at Regeneron focusing on stability of proteins in solution, and a summer at AbbVie focusing on scale-up of lyophilized protein formulations. Ashley has served as the Chair of the University of Kentucky American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) student chapter in 2017, Co-Chair of the Drug Discovery and Development Colloquium in 2018, and Chair of the 2019 Gordon Research Seminar on Preclinical Form and Formulation for Drug Discovery. She was awarded a Pharmaceutical Sciences Excellence in Graduate Achievement Fellowship from UK College of Pharmacy, was featured as the Student Spotlight in the June 2018 AAPS Newsmagazine, and has received several poster and travel awards.
